Steamworld Build (2023)
I spent most of 2023 at Auroch Digital porting the Steamworld Build to the Nintendo Switch on behalf of Thunderful Games. The major challenge of the project was getting the game that was still in development for PC and the other major console platforms to run on the Switch with its limited hardware capabilities. Arguably my biggest contribution was adapting the project to use Unity’s addressables system to reduce the assets kept in memory as well as creating smaller patch size. Other challenges including adapting the UI to the Switch’s smaller screen and controllers, hunting memory leaks and providing support for seasonal content.
The game launched in December 2023, with many reviews praising its performance on the Switch.
